The forest is like a quilt comprised of many varied patches that fit together to create a seemingly perfect whole. The patches of our forests have been shaped by the variety of its soils, climate, topography, and land-use histories; and they reflect the diverse values of the families, landowners, and forest users of the region. Five years ago our vision was shared only by a few. Today we have affected many thousands of acres. While we move ahead – one landowner at a time – we hope that these small patches will soon lead us to a quilt of forest stewardship throughout the Appalachians and beyond.
